Geek+Pop Enters the Art Scene

This October, Filipino creatives are set to be featured at the country’s biggest card gaming convention, Geek+Pop Pinoy Creatives.

The event, which will run from October 17 to 18, will feature art workshops and local merchandise areas highlighting Filipino comics, anime goods, and crafts. The gathering is also set to welcome cosplayers incorporating a Filipino touch into their work.

Organizer Joal Montiel Cabrera took to his Facebook account to explain the inspiration behind the new Pinoy Creatives branch of Geek+Pop:

Lahat naman ng event na ginawa ko, malapit sa puso ko ang tema, pero itong isang 'to, malalim ang hugot. Kasi art ang tumbok - art and creative ang bumuhay sa pamilya ko all these years, (Every event I make is close to my heart, but this one hit’s the closest as it features art. Art which was paying for my family for all these years) ” Cabrera wrote.

He added that the organization's previous event, Geek+Pop Resbak x Philippine International Collectors and Card Show (PICCS) last May, featured not only card and retro gaming, but also appearances by Filipino artists ChkDsk, Pol Medina Jr., and Tubero, among others.

Netizens quickly expressed excitement over the theme, noting that it brings a much-needed local touch back to conventions. Many fans also voiced hopes that organizers will invite local voice actors and feature Pinoy wrestling.

Geek+Pop Pinoy Creatives would commence at the Spaces in One Ayala in Makati City from October 17 to 18.

Ticketing details for the event have yet to be announced.
